Court rules California law requiring use of transgender pronouns is a violation of free speech     (www.theblaze.com)

From theblaze.com The State of California Third District Court of Appeals ruled that a state law requiring the use of preferred pronouns by nursing home workers violated their free speech rights. The court struck down the pro-transgender regulation on Friday in a unanimous 3-0 decision. The provision was a part of the LGBTQ Long-Term Care Facility Residents' Bill of Rights passed in 2017 and signed into law by then-Gov. Jerry Brown. The bill's author, state Sen. Scott Wiener (D-San Francisco), released a statement lambasting the decision. "The Court's decision is disconnected from the reality facing transgender people," said Sen. Wiener.

You're More Likely to Get Murdered in Chicago Than Be Hospitalized for COVID-19     (web.archive.org)

From pjmedia.com/vodkapundit "The Delta variant does not appear to be especially deadly,” says Dr. Joel Zinberg in a Tuesday New York Post op-ed. Zinberg — who practiced medicine for 30 years at Mt. Sinai Hospital — notes that “despite rising numbers of Delta cases in July, hospitalizations have only increased moderately.” Delta victims, he notes, “are no more likely to be hospitalized or die than with other variants.” Not only that, but as I noted elsewhere here at PJ Media on Wednesday, you’re more likely to get murdered in Chicago (18 murders per 100,000 people) than a senior citizen is to be hospitalized for the Wuhan Flu (2.9 per 100,000), Delta variant or no Delta variant.

Team USA Chiropractor Apologizes for Comparing Olympic Covid Rules to Nazi Germany     (web.archive.org)

From Breitbart.com TOKYO (AP) — The chiropractor for the American women’s wrestling team has apologized after comparing Olympic COVID-19 protocols to Nazi Germany in a social media post. Rosie Gallegos-Main, a chiropractor for women’s wrestling since 2009, said in a letter to the USA Wrestling Diversity, Equity and Inclusion Committee on Wednesday she was sorry “for my poor judgment and my choice to share this message.” The post, sent to her Instagram and Facebook accounts last week, was flagged by both social media platforms for spreading misinformation. “We went from ‘Flattening the curve in 14 days’ to ‘Going door-to-door to see your papers’ … Gotta admit, I did N-A-Z-I that one coming,” the post said. Gallegos-Main deleted her post hours after The Associated Press brought it to the attention of the United States Olympic & Paralympic Committee on Tuesday.

CDC monitoring 200 people in 27 states for monkeypox     (web.archive.org)

From nypost.com The CDC is monitoring more than 200 people in 27 states for possible exposure to monkeypox, after they were in contact with a Texan who contracted the rare disease in Nigeria earlier this month. No additional cases of the smallpox-related disease have been detected in the US, according to Stat. State and local health officials are working with the feds to monitor the individuals who were in contact with the monkeypox patient and follow up with them daily until July 30, according to the website. The patient traveled from Lagos to Dallas with a layover in Atlanta on July 8 and 9, nearly a week before being diagnosed with the rare bug, which can be transmitted through respiratory droplets and body fluids, the CDC said. The people being monitored include fliers who sat within six feet of the patient or used the mid-cabin bathroom on the overseas flight, according to the article.

I'd have done this with French seams to prevent fraying, but this is a quick way to get the job done.

New sub for all things sewing, from crafts to quilts to tents to clothing. Come share your sewing knowledge or link a cool pattern or video. Questions are great too. I'm self taught, only sewing for a few years now, so I'm always looking for better, smarter, or even old time ways to get the job done. I love making something from nothing, totally rewarding and satisfying to the soul, I should have kicked that sewing machine's ass sooner. Running with scissors is totally allowed here.

Anybody ever add a zipper to a nylon canopy bag or a tent?     (AskVoat)

submitted by Cynabuns to AskVoat 2 months ago

I just got a pop up canopy with a wheeled bag. The bag has a zipper that zips around three sides located at the bottom of the bag (not long-ways which would have been ultra helpful); you just slide the bag over the top of the canopy frame and it's in. There's plenty of room in the bag for the canopy top, but refolding it so that it's flat-and-narrow enough to slide into the bag through that opening is not happening. I also tried leaving the top on the frame and slide it all back into the bag, but the bag is just too tight. I'm thinking of adding a straight or smile-shaped zipper along one of the bag sidewalls to give me access to the roomier part for the top and a few wall panels. I watched videos by Sailright putting curved zips on vinyl for windows, and this camping guy who was pretty spot on with what I think want to do, https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HeRCZlXzSK8. Anybody done this or something similar that can share their technique or warn me of the pitfalls?

https://www.voat.xyz/v/ReportSpammers The dregs of the internet have found voat and we need your help. Just in the last few days, I've deleted a user's post offering a commercial product/service, and today I banned a URL and its user for posting only their site (this was after a message to stop the spam got ignored). I expect soon to see brand spanking new users making repetitive posts or comments hawking their junk too. Each of these is a form of spam and is not welcome here. Should you come across a user who looks like they are spamming, please make a discussion post with that user's name at v/ReportSpammers and we'll will take a look. A link to that user's profile page and the name of their site/domain or their channel is helpful. Thanks for your vigilance :)

The secret to the Best Banana Bread is...     (Recipes)

...Freezing the fully ripened unpeeled bananas for a day or two, at least, then thaw and add to your recipe. I have stored bananas in my freezer for months and they thaw beautifully. Bonus, something about the freezing releases all those wonderful oils making the bread even more flavorful. I have this recipe taped to my Red Star bread machine. ==== Banana Bread 2 medium sized bananas, peeled and mashed 2 eggs 1 Tbs Oil 2 Cups flour 1 tsp Baking Powder 1/2 tsp Baking Soda 1-1/3 Cups Sugar (reserve 1 Tbs to sprinkle on top of dough) Use the Quick Bread cycle and pull the bread about 12 minutes before the timer shuts off. === I try to have one or two loaves in the freezer at any given time as they make great last minute gifts. It's dangerously delicious :)
